What the Bible Says...

What the Bible says about the Origin and Penalty for Sin.

  HOW DO ALL MEN SIN?

God created the first man and woman without sin. They have good fellowship with Him in the garden of Eden.
"And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:" {Genesis 3:8}

But they disobeyed God and their good fellowship was broken. Man was cast out from the Garden of Eden.
"Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of  Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." {Genesis 3:23 - 24}

Sin separates man from God.
"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." {Isaiah 59:2}
" And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities." {Isaiah 64:7}

And because of that, sin entered into the world.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" {Romans 5:12}

THE PENALTY FOR SIN?
 God is just and holy. Sin is an offence against a personal lawgiver and moral governor who vindicates his law with penalties. Sin must be paid for.
"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." {Romans 11:22}

The penalty for sin is Death.
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
{Hebrews 9:27}

There are 2 kinds of Death.
- Physical Death
- Spiritual Death

1. Physical Death
   - This is the first death.
   - May be simply defined as the termination of life.
   - The cessation of life.
   - The separation of body and spirit."For as the body without the spirit is dead,"{James 2:26}

2. Spiritual Death
   - This is the second death,
   - It is the everlasting perdition of the wicked
   - The eternal separation of God and man.
   - Hell is man's final destiny
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." {Revelation 21:8}
"And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." {Revelation 20:14}
